inspired by nature

It goes to show that no form of innovation can be truly original when you look at the works explored by the Biomimicry Institute. Its quite complex, but basically their main focus is bringing ideas in design and technology inspired and derived from the biology of plants, animals and microbes, together to produce sustainable human systems. For example there’s an interesting case study in there about butterfly-inspired pigment-free colour. Certain insects have structural features in their skeletons which cause light to diffract and interfere in ways that create brilliant colour through the use of structure; rather than applying man-made chemical pigments.
